Participate

Information architecture thrives when diverse voices contribute. Whether you're new to the field or a seasoned professional, there are many ways to get involved with our global community.

Local and global events

Attend or support an event near you

World IA Day events happen annually in dozens of locations worldwide. Find an event in your area to network with peers, learn from experts, and grow your skills.

At local events, you can:

  • Attend sessions and workshops

  • Volunteer to help organizers with logistics, promotion, or event activities

  • Speak and share your knowledge with the community

Create something new

If there's no event in your area, you have two distinct ways to get involved:

  • Organize a World IA Day event: Host a local celebration in your community, bringing together IA practitioners and enthusiasts for a day of learning and connection. Learn about organizing a WIAD event

  • Join the World IA Café team: Become part of our year-round virtual event series that connects the global IA community between annual WIAD celebrations. Volunteer with World IA Café → Links to the Café volunteer page

Both opportunities allow you to grow the IA community while developing valuable skills in communication and event management.

Join our global community

Connect year-round

World IA Day isn't just a single-day celebration. Our community stays connected throughout the year through:

Connect with IA practitioners worldwide, participate in discussions, and discover opportunities for collaboration.

Stay informed about upcoming events, calls for participation, and community highlights.

Support the global organization

The World IA Association depends on volunteers at all levels to fulfill our mission of making information architecture easily accessible to everyone.

Volunteer opportunities

  • Microvolunteering: Contribute in small, manageable ways that fit your schedule. Help with tasks like social media sharing, proofreading, or assisting at events.

  • Project Contribution: Join teams working on WIAA initiatives, content creation, research, or event planning. Open to all experience levels.

  • Project Leadership: Experienced practitioners can guide important initiatives, share their knowledge with the community, and help shape the future direction of IA practice.
